Happy Thursday, folks! I know we’ve mentioned this before, but it’s pretty exciting to see a client on the rise and having as much success as we’ve seen with the Savannah Philharmonic this season. Artistic Director and Conductor, Peter Shannon, continues to be a breath of fresh air bringing a new sense of excitement to the organization. With that said, their upcoming concert is sure to be one that you don’t want to miss. A fully-staged opera comic written by none other than Mozart himself, Così fan tutte is a musical masterpiece widely thought to be Mozart’s favorite. Believe us when we say, it’s not everyday that a celebrated opera of this nature comes to Savannah. In addition to the costumes, original set design and complete orchestra, world-class soloists from across the world will travel to Savannah just for this production. Not into opera? That’s okay- this concert truly has something for everyone.
Roughly translated, the title means ‘women are just like that.’ Presented in Italian with English supertitles, Così fan tutte presents the story of two engaged couples who, after a mischievous wager, are forced to examine the nature of love and commitment through a few hilarious bumps in the road. Così fan tutte is an entertaining, engaging and enormously funny opera that causes its audiences to fall in love with Mozart’s characterizations of relationships and the effects of seduction.
Performances will be held Friday and Saturday, January 21 and 22, 2011 at 8 p.m. at the Lucas Theatre for the Arts located at 32 Abercorn Street. Concert tickets are available for purchase at www.savannahphilharmonic.org or by calling (912) 525-5050. Ticket prices are $20 to $100. See you there!
